We are OPEN!!!

Dear Members and Guests of Golden Eagle Golf Club,

Great news for Minnesota golfers today as we received word that we can open tomorrow morning, April 18, and Golden Eagle is ready for you! As we are as anxious as you to get back out on the course, we need to abide by the federal, state and local guidelines, as well as CDC recommendations to protect our employees, members and guests.

Here is what your new experience will look like at Golden Eagle:

Golf:

  • Book and pay for your tee times online or by phone, tee times will be moved to 15 minutes apart (previously set at 10).  This will allow more distance between groups and allow our staff to follow all of the new procedures involved to help protect everyone.

  • Check in for your tee time by calling the clubhouse when you arrive. Within minutes of your tee time, you will go directly to the first tee and start your round. The goal is to help avoid “gatherings” to occur.

  • Proper Social Distancing practices still need to be obeyed.

  • Cups will be raised to keep the ball from going in.  If your ball touches the cup, count it as good. Flagsticks will be in but not allowed to be removed or touched at all.

  • The driving range will be open. Please call ahead and one of our staff will bring the balls to you in the parking lot or if you are golfing with a cart, we’ll include balls with your cart.

  • Ball washers, Rakes, Sand Boxes, any common touching points will be removed from the course.  The permanent benches will not be able to be used.

Carts:

  • One rider per cart, unless you reside in the same household.

  • Carts will be cleaned after each use.

  • Players will be responsible for their own trash.

Clubhouse:

  • The clubhouse will be closed except for the following:

    • Restrooms will be available and cleaned regularly according to CDC guidelines.

    • We will communicate with you ahead of time if you’d like to order any food/bev/pro shop items, take payment via phone and have ready in your cart when you arrive. However, if you do need to come in for a take-away food and beverage transaction, only up to five people will be allowed at one time and must abide by social distancing.

This is going to take tremendous cooperation from everyone involved.  WE MUST AND WE WILL FOLLOW THE PROTOCOLS LAID DOWN BY THE GOVERNMENT. We’ve already heard too many horror stories of courses in other states not complying:

  • In one instance, a group was having beers in the parking lot after their round of golf, tailgate style.  A passer-by took a photo of them, sent it into the local news stations and the golf course was shut down the next day.

  • In the state of Michigan, people are flying drones over golf courses to report people being on the course.  The FACILITY is getting the $1000 fine levied to them for having people on their property. Whether or not they are aware that people are actually on the course.

We know that these times have been tough and frustrating and that some of these protocols might seem unnecessary, but it is very important we follow them.  We don’t want to be the ones that ruin it for everyone!

With all of that said, we are very excited  to kick off a great season here at Golden Eagle Golf Club!  We look forward to seeing you out on the course soon!

Stay safe,

Golden Eagle Team

COVID-19 Update

Here at the Golden Eagle Golf Club, we are anxiously waiting for the course to reopen for the season, typically around mid to late April in our area. As with everyone else, we are closely monitoring guidance around COVID-19 from federal, state and local agencies and will abide by their direction. As of now, we are still closed but continue to work to prepare the course and the clubhouse for our members and guests, adhering to the CDC's guidelines for workplace and personal health and safety. When mother nature and the government tell us we can open, we'll be ready! We look forward to enjoying a beautiful spring day outdoors, playing the game that we all love hopefully in the near future!

April in Minnesota...

Weather in Minnesota is frustrating.

We opened the course April 13th in 2017, and with that date in the rear view mirror for 2018, we are patiently looking ahead to days filled with birdies and green grass.  Last weekend was a rough reminder that we are not in control when it comes to weather, but luckily we fared much better than our friends farther South.  At Golden Eagle, most of the snow that fell over the weekend has already melted off, and there are a lot of bare areas soaking up the sun.

Stay tuned for our 2018 opening date.  We will be having Restaurant Specials on Cinco De Mayo again this season!  Come join us May 5th from 1 pm to 5 pm for a build your own taco bar, 16 oz Coronas and Margaritas on the rocks!  Nothing says Spring like tacos, margaritas and golf!

Be sure to follow us on Facebook, (@GoldenEagleGolfClub) and Instagram (goldeneaglemn) and Snapchat (gegolfmn)

Golf Tip #3

Before you grab your sticks and head to the course...

Set realistic expectations and remember the first few rounds of the season, you will be a little rusty. Do not get frustrated, instead take notes on what areas of your game needs the most help.
Usually after a lengthy time away from the game, we find it's the short game that needs the most attention. Now it's time to hit the range with a practice plan. I tell my students to spend 25 percent of their time on the long game and 75 percent on 100 yards and in. This includes pitching, chipping, putting and bunker play. Follow this strategy, and you will find that you can shake the rust off and be back to playing your best golf in no time!

Golf Tip #2

Tired of three putting? Try this simple tip and keep practicing and you will see results.

Always start by reading your putt from the side. This will give you a good idea of the distance and elevation change that you might not see from behind the ball.

This will help you with judging the right speed to hit your putt. After looking from the side, you then look from behind the ball to determine the line you want to start your putt on.

Now your ready to make your stroke. With a little practice, you will find your first putt ending up closer to the hole giving you the easy tap in we are all looking for.

Golf Tip #1 - Practice with a purpose

To often I see golfers at the range hitting ball after ball with no real goal in mind. In general we need to slow down and have a clear goal with each swing.

For example: when I'm warming up at the range I will hit shots using each club in the bag. When I have completed that I will then hit a driver and then change clubs to a 6 iron. Next I hit 3 wood followed by a 9 iron. What I'm doing is simulating the shots I will face on the course.

Try this and you will play better during your next round of golf.
